As American as baseball and apple pie
OXFORD– Major General Robert Sentman, USA (ret.), dressed in full cavalry attire, and carrying the cavalry guidon, maintained a steady pace as he rode his horse along the streets of Oxford Thursday, July 4. Behind him the American Legion carried our nation’s flag, fire trucks sounded their horns and sirens, political parties advertised their candidates, and antique cars and tractors followed while candy flew toward eager children at the curbs.
For nearly an hour the parade, which started at Legion Park, wound its way through the rural Johnson County community. Bringing up the rear was Santa and Mrs. Claus on a three-wheeled red motorcycle.
