Bolts host their first MVC cross country Super Meet

IOWA CITY– Liberty High’s Ashlyn Keeney blazed through the Kickers Soccer Complex in Iowa City Thursday, Oct. 10, to win the Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) Super Meet varsity girls 5k race. Keeney, a sophomore, got off to a quick start and wasted no time extending her lead over the rest of the pack. She crossed the finish line in 18:07, 47 seconds ahead of runner-up Micah Poellet from Linn-Mar.
Overall the Lightning varsity girls were ninth in team points with Dubuque Senior winning with 72 points, and Linn-Mar taking the runner up spot with 78. City High was third overall while Iowa City West was eighth.
Bo Gryp led the Bolts to a fifth-place team finish in the varsity boys 5k race. Gryp, a junior, was 12th in 16:58. Dubuque Hempstead took the team championship followed by Cedar Falls. West High was fourth, and City High was seventh overall.
Gavin Hayes set the pace for the junior varsity (JV) boys with his 21st-place finish in 19:06. The Bolts were sixth in team points with Dubuque Hempstead winning with 24 team points, and West High taking runner-up.
Avery Clark was the first Bolt in for the JV girl’s race with a 29th-place finish in 24:34. Dubuque Senior won the team title followed by City High while Liberty was sixth.
Boden Bisgard led the Liberty freshman/sophomore boys’ team to a seventh-place finish with his 28th-place showing in 19:09. Linn-Mar took the team title with Cedar Rapids Prairie in the runner-up team spot. City High was fourth while West High was ninth.
Liberty did not field a girls’ freshman/sophomore squad.
The Bolts travel to the Dubuque Soccer Complex (3355 John F. Kennedy Rd.) on Thursday, Oct. 17, for the MVC Valley Division Meet starting at 4:30 p.m.
