TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) Clipper varsity soccer team opened the 2014 season with a loss at home last Monday to the Golden Eagles of Mid-Prairie in sudden-death overtime.
Austin Errthum put Mid Prairie on the scoreboard with three minutes left in the first half, scoring on a free kick. The Clippers had threatened several times throughout the half, but had each attack thwarted. Jon Jacobson finally got a goal for CCA, scoring on a free kick with 25 seconds remaining in regulation play and sending the game into sudden-death overtime. With 2:32 left to play in the second extra period, Errthum struck again for the 2-1 victory.
The win improved the Golden Eagles’ record to 3-0 following tournament play the previous weekend, while the Clippers took an 0-1 record on the road the following day to Central Clinton DeWitt and a date with the Sabers. The Clippers dropped to 0-2 with another 2-1 loss. Wyatt Sedlacek, a freshman, scored CCA’s goal.
The Clippers travel to Anamosa on Thursday, April 17, to face the Blue Raiders with a 5:30 p.m. start.
