Creek Boys go 3-0 on the mats

TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana’s wrestlers opened the 2016-17 season with a 3-0 sweep in a home quad meet Thursday, Dec. 1, against Anamosa, Highland-Riverside and Center Point-Urbana (CP-U).
The Clippers sank the Huskies of Highland-Riverside, 69-12, with 10 forfeits by the Huskies. Hunter Schmelzer took a 7-2 decision from Highland’s Cullen Klebe at 113-pounds while Sam Steckly took the 160-pound match by pinning Highland’s Dan Burton in 1:23.
CCA knocked off the Stormin’ Pointers of CP-U, 50-27, as Samual Stevens (106) took a 10-3 decision from the Pointers’ Cloe Clemons, Myshawn Smith (126) pinned CP-U’s Dylan Knudtson in 1:12, Quinn Murphy (138) pinned CP-U’s Cameron Garnett in 3:03 and Andrew Rohret (138) earned an 18-3 technical fall in 6:00 over the Pointers’ Joseph Tschantz. Seamus Poynton (152) pinned CP-U’s Collin Bantz in 2:37 and Cole White (220) pinned CP-U’s Chase Boddicker in 1:45.
Anamosa’s Blue Raiders fell to the Creek Boys, 57-24, as Stevens (106) pinned Payton Auman in 1:19, Jordan Delaney (132) pinned Anamosa’s Will Marsh in 1:03, Murphy earned a 22-4 technical fall in 3:43 and Rohret (145) earned an 11-1 major decision over Nick Thompson. Steckly (160) pinned Mason Christe in 1:48, White (220) pinned Shawn Buhr in 15 seconds and Ethan Taylor (285) pinned Jacob Bachelder.
The Clippers are back on the mats Thursday, Dec. 8, at Benton Community High School in a quad meet with Benton, Anamosa and Central DeWitt starting at 6 p.m. On Saturday, Dec. 10, the Creek Boys travel to Clarence for a 10 a.m. tournament at North Cedar Jr./Sr. High.
