Dan Coons, Dean Martin selected by Solon school district voters
SOLON– When the Solon Community School District’s Board of Education met Monday night (Sept. 19), two newly-elected board members were expected to take their seats.
Dan Coons and incumbent Dean Martin were elected to seats on the local school board as part of the Tuesday, Sept. 13, elections.
Additionally, Solon district voters approved a new Revenue Purpose Statement authorizing the expenditure of future revenue generated by the statewide Secure an Advanced Vision for Education (SAVE) one percent sales tax.
Local voters also approved the reauthorization of a bond issue for Kirkwood Community College, which also passed on a county level.
Only 317 total eligible voters made their way to the polls in Solon precincts, a turnout of only 7.14 percent, according to the Johnson County Auditor’s office.
Coons and Martin won sizable chunks of the vote, with Coons capturing 238 votes (75 percent) and Martin 220 total votes (69 percent). Jeremiah Sinnwell received 66 votes, or 21 percent, for third place.
