Governor, North Liberty council declares Optimists Day June 7
NORTH LIBERTY– Join the North Liberty Optimist Club and the North Liberty Recreation Department as they celebrate Iowa’s free fishing weekend and the local Optimists’ contributions to the community.
In addition to a Fish Iowa Games casting derby held at Liberty Centre Pond on Saturday, June 7, from 9 until 11 a.m., Iowa Governor Terry Branstad and the North Liberty City Council have proclaimed June 7 as Optimist Day. The Optimist Club of North Liberty has been operating in the community for over 40 years. They support many of the youth organizations in North Liberty and are a charter organization for the local Boy Scouts chapter.
“We thank the community for all of their support and we look forward to continue our efforts and help the children of North Liberty,” said Optimist member Darlene Smith. “We are always looking for new members.”
The club meets on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at Pizza Ranch in North Liberty at 6:30 p.m. Anyone interested in joining may attend a meeting or call Smith 319-626-2939 for more information.
