Inez Marie Franck

Inez Marie Franck, 84, died peacefully Saturday, July 25, 2009, in Independence. She had been in failing health for several months.
Her loving family includes three children, Gregary Franck and his wife Jan, Ankeny, Glenda Hellenthal and her husband Nick, Independence, and Julie Peyton and her husband Steven, Center Point. She also had six grandchildren, G. Wade Franck, Travis Franck and his wife Marcy, Brent Hellenthal and his wife Jennifer, Ryan Hellenthal and his wife Leia, Jody Michael and her husband Matt, Joel Peyton and his wife Kerry; six great-grandchildren Delphina, Arabella, Keira, Jaeden, Reilly and Abigail. She is also survived by her brother, Byron Sweeting and his wife, Dorothy of Riverside.
Inez was born April 16, 1925, in Solon to Arthur and Anna Sweeting. She grew up on the family farm near Riverside, where she attended school. After becoming a licensed beautician and working in Cedar Rapids, she married Burley Franck on Jan. 6, 1947, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. The couple moved to a farm near Troy Mills, where she lived for nearly 50 years.
During this time, she raised her family, ran her own beauty shop and was highly involved in her community. She belonged to the Troy Mills Christian Church and was active in Christian Women’s Fellowship, Farm Bureau, Troy Mills Homemakers Club, Daughters of the Nile, and Order of the Eastern Star, as well as North Linn School events.
She was an ardent gardener, who “put by” fruits and vegetables each summer, and she especially cherished her beautiful flowers, which she tended until late in life.
She also took great pride in her cooking. For her, food truly was love, and her cakes, cookies, pies and breads fed family and friends. Inez enthusiastically contributed to church social hours, fund-raising dinners, weddings and funerals. Her Czech heritage was evident in her kolaches, a special pastry recipe, never to be duplicated.
In 1988, Inez and her husband Burley retired to Troy Mills, where she lived until 2006, when she moved to an apartment in Independence. Burley died in 1993.
Services were held Wednesday, July 29, at Troy Mills Christian Church, Troy Mills. Brief graveside services and burial were in Troy Mills Cemetery following church services.
Memorials may be made to the Troy Mills Christian Church, the American Heart Association, or Shriners Children’s Hospitals.
