Iowa Highway Patrol releases details of Jan. 30 fatality on Ely Road
SOLON– The Iowa State Patrol has released its report on the Jan. 30 accident that claimed the life of a rural Solon man and his young son.
Gregory Engrav, 37, of rural Solon was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Impala south on Ely Road near the intersection with 140th Street at 7:57 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, when his vehicle drifted into the northbound lane, side-swiping a 1998 Subaru Outback driven by Steve Thompson of Solon, and then colliding head-on with a 2002 Ford Explorer driven by Melissa Bachus of Solon.
Gregory Engrav received fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene of the accident. His son Zachary, 5, was a passenger in the vehicle, and was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics (UIHC) where he later died. Bacchus, 44, suffered incapacitating injuries and was taken to UIHC for treatment. Gregory Engrav and Bacchus were extricated by mechanical means. Thompson was uninjured. Seats belts were used in all the vehicles.
