Larry L. Slay, 77, North Liberty, passed on Oct. 29, 2013, after a tenacious and admirable battle against leukemia. Larry was happily retired after 35 years with HLM Architects. A celebration of life was held on Nov. 3 at Lensing’s Oak Hill in Coralville.
Larry was born on Oct. 19, 1936, in Oskaloosa, the son of Paul and Marie (Krile) Slay. He married Mary L. Blackwell on Feb. 4, 1956, and together, Larry and Mary had four wonderful children. Larry was a loving and devoted husband and father who was always deeply involved with his family. He will be missed as a friend, husband and father.
Survivors include his wife Mary, four children: Julie (Fred) Africa, Craig (Mary) Slay, Eric (Denise) Slay, and Jamie (Shelley) Slay; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister Betty Swick, many nieces and nephews, and his buddy Sophie. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Pauline Fitzgerald.
