NL woman charged in pepper spray incident

CORALVILLE– A North Liberty woman faces a felony burglary charge after allegedly pepper-spraying the residents of a Coralville apartment.
According to a criminal complaint, the Coralville Police Department responded Feb. 3, to 954 Boston Way, in Coralville, for a report of a fight in progress.
Zhane Torese Ball, 26, of North Liberty, was accused of waiting outside the residence until the door was opened, then stepping in and spraying an occupant directly in the face with pepper spray. Ball continued to spray the entire living room while a 4-year-old was within the spray radius, according to the complaint. Multiple subjects in the apartment complained of burning and irritation to the eyes and throat.
Ball was charged with burglary in the first degree, a Class B felony.
Additionally, Ball was charged with two counts of second-degree theft for incidents at Von Maur, in Coralville, on Feb. 1 and Feb. 5.
The separate charges stemmed from shoplifting incidents in which Ball and a juvenile allegedly participated. In one case, Ball is accused of parking outside in a running vehicle as the juvenile concealed handbags in a large bag inside the store. In another instance, Ball was accused of being present in the business selecting items for a co-defendant to steal.
