NLFD firefighter Dave Hubler inducted into NL Hall of Fame

NORTH LIBERTY– Dave Hubler, who served 24 years as a volunteer with the North Liberty Fire Department (NLFD), including time as its chief, was inducted into the North Liberty Community Hall of Fame Nov. 5.
“Being a volunteer firefighter is a large commitment, and Dave has served the city and its residents, often missing family events to go on medical calls, fire calls or accidents involving injury and sometimes death,” his nomination read. The NLFD is one of the busiest volunteer fire departments in the state, with about 1,000 calls a year. Hubler routinely responded on about 40 percent of the department’s calls, department leadership said.
The award honors those who have demonstrated commitment and sacrifice in service to the North Liberty community.
Previous inductees are the late Russ Gerdin (2013), philanthropist and founder of Heartland Express; Tom Salm (2014), the late mayor who took office during a time of turmoil and led North Liberty forward with vision, consensus and selflessness; and the late Natlie Wilkerson (2013), who gave selflessly of her time, particularly to those in need, and helped found the North Liberty Community Pantry.
