O’Connor leads the way for CCA runners

North Liberty Leader
OSKALOOSA– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) varsity boys cross country squad picked up its second team title of the 2016 season with a win Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the Oskaloosa Invitational. The Creek Boys topped the 13-team field with 46 team points, led by freshman Nick O’Connor’s third-place finish in 18:25.6.
Coach Ben Robison called it a phenomenal night for the Clippers. “We had a plan going in, the boys were focused and were dialed in on what we needed to do, and they executed beautifully,” he said. “Freshman Nick O’Connor stepped up big-time, and Sophomore Cole Liebe ran maybe the race of his career tonight.”
Liebe was 10th in 18:50.7.
“The boys are really starting to figure things out, and we are firing on all cylinders in this mid-season grind,” Robison added. “We are trying to balance running well and competing now, while still staying focused on being primed for championship season.”
Robison also gave credit to the junior varsity (JV) boys, who finished fifth with 136 points overall behind team champion Oskaloosa (27), Williamsburg (59), Ottumwa (95) and Knoxville (106).
“They crushed their races,” Robison proclaimed.
Brandon McCarty led the JV Clippers with a sixth-place finish in 20.55.6, with teammate Shiloh Robbins hot on his heels in seventh place posting a time of 21:13.9.
