One big gust, and Blues was a bust
NORTH LIBERTY– It was one storm, one gust, one wet time.
The thunderstorms and high winds that passed through the North Liberty/Solon area on Sunday, May 29, damaged some equipment and saturated the fields where organizers had set up for North Liberty’s fifth annual Blues & BBQ festival.
Three tents were shredded after tables were carried up and over the tops of the tents by the wind, portable toilets were blown over, and the beverage garden area turned into a small lake at about 9:30 a.m. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured during the storm.
The planning committee and vendors who had already arrived to set up for the event went on stand by, but weather radar indicated a second storm system might develop during the late afternoon. By 12 p.m., the event’s original start time, the grass area designated for children’s rides and games was deemed too swampy to accommodate any kids’ activities. Fearing a second storm and not wishing to risk any potential injuries to guests, disappointed event planners decided to cancel the festival all together.
No rain date will be scheduled.
