Pantry to co-host public forum on hunger issues July 21
NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Community Food and Clothing Pantry, in collaboration with HACAP (Hawkeye Area Community Action Program) Food Reservoir and other area food pantries, are hosting a public forum, “Focus on Hunger,” on July 21 from 12 to 2 p.m. at North Liberty First United Methodist Church, 85 N. Jones Blvd., North Liberty.
The public forum will include guest speakers and representatives of area agencies speaking on topics such as hunger in Iowa, the impact of commodities programs on hunger, and the difficulties of making up for lost commodities funding.
Federal and local legislators will also be invited to the forum, and are expected to offer their responses to forum topics, as well as hold a question/answer session to questions submitted in advance. At 1:45 p.m., the public may tour the North Liberty Pantry.
Executive director of the pantry Tina DuBois said the organizations hope to fill the church to show the community’s concern regarding hunger and feeding our neighbors. Everyone is welcome.
