Solon Public Library

Halloween party review

The library’s Halloween party for children is always one of its most popular programs and this year, we experienced record-breaking attendance. We had 438 people participating in crafts, games, refreshments, and, of course, trick-or-treating. Morgan Meiers got even more of those treats as the winner of the jar of Tootsie Rolls, with her guess of 230 coming closest to the mystery jar’s 232 pieces.
The library staff would like to thank the volunteers– Friends of the Library, TAB (Teen Advisory Board), and Macbride’s Pride 4-H group– for staffing the games and crafts, and providing refreshments. Thank you, also, to the Friends of the Library board members, Sue Ballantyne, Paul Saupe, Sharon Crosheck and Liza Haugland, for adding homemade treats to the refreshment table. Additionally, we’d like to express our gratitude to Cherri Pollock for all of her hard work baking cookies to make sure we had enough for everyone.
Finally, we want to thank everyone in the community who attended this year’s program. We couldn’t have done it without your participation, and we look forward to many more years of Halloween fun.

Teen Halloween party report

The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) sponsored its first Teen Halloween party on Oct. 26. Activities included the “Eyeball” Bounce, Zombie Make-Up, a Blindfolded Taste Test, Candy Corn Guess, a team Mummy Making Contest, and the Amazing Madame AJ who dazzled everyone with her fortune telling. Food included creepy things like R.I.P. Tombstones, Shrunken Head Punch, and Bread and Cheese Brain. The evening’s grand finale was the costume contest. Scary, cute, elaborate and funny characters walked the runway to show off their costumes. Thank you to the dedicated, talented TAB members who made this happen and to all the party-goers for making the night a blast.

What to do with that Halloween costume? Give it to the Friends

Done with the Halloween costumes and want to get them out of the house? If you have costumes that the kids won’t be using again, donate them to the Friends of the Library. Friends held their first ever Halloween costume sale this year, and plan on repeating it next year if they have enough donations. They will accept adult costumes as well, as long as they are in good taste and appropriate for older children to wear.
