Solon rides highs and lows against Tipton and Assumption

Big win at home, big loss on the road

SOLON– The Spartans scored 15 runs over two games.
But 14 came in one game and the Solon varsity baseball team split single games against Tipton and Davenport Assumption last week.
The Spartans shut out the Tigers, 14-0, at home, on June 23 and then got waylaid by the Knights the following evening, 11-1.
Freshman Blake Timmons and seniors Lucas Walker and Mathieux Rehnke combined to limit Tipton to four hits and no runs over five innings, with seven strikeouts by Walker.
Senior Nolan Pattison and junior Brayden Rickertson each had two RBIs for Solon, which jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and then broke through against the Tiger pitching for nine runs in the third. The Spartans managed only six singles, but drew eight walks while striking out only three times. Pattison went 2-2 at the plate. Timmons scored three times for Solon, while senior Cole Arduser and incoming freshman Blake White scored twice.
The Knights did all their damage in two innings June 24, in Davenport.
Assumption plated six runners in the bottom of the third and five more in the fifth on the way to an 11-1 rout.
Solon scored its solo run in the top of the first on a single by Pattison, the only hit of the night for the Spartans.
Rickertson, junior Westen Stiegelmeyer and junior Will Noonan combined for Solon on the mound in the loss.
