Veterans Day lunch at the library Nov. 11

NORTH LIBERTY– Veterans and guests/family are invited to attend the North Liberty Community Library’s second Veterans Day Appreciation at the North Liberty Community Library. This year the library staff is offering a lunch and presentation by retired National Guardsman Dave Lewis on Friday, Nov. 11, at 11:30 a.m. in the library.
“Our mission is to be a community gathering place and we’re pleased to host this event to honor and recognize the veterans and service members in our community,” said Adult Services Librarian Elaine Hayes.
Lunch will be catered by Zio Johno’s in North Liberty and will be free to all veterans, servicemen and women. Guests are also invited to attend for $5 per guest. Pre-registration is required for this event and you can register at eventbrite.com or by calling the library at 319-626-5701. Registration is open through Monday, Nov. 7.
Speaker Dave Lewis is a North Liberty resident and retired Iowa National Guardsman, with 26 years of service as a traditional Guardsman at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. From 2010-2011, Lewis deployed with the Iowa National Guard’s Agri-business Development Team to Kunar Province, Afghanistan, as the Deputy Commander and was awarded the Bronze Star and Combat Action Badge among other awards. Lewis will talk about the Veterans support organization he is involved with, Healing at English River Outfitters (HERO). HERO provides safe experiences for veterans and has found success in reconnecting veterans to society.
