West Cross-Country in action in Ames
AMES– Both boys and girls cross country squads were in action for Iowa City West High Saturday, Sept. 21, at the 7th Roosevelt-Heartland Classic on the Iowa State University’s cross country course.
“It was a tough meet today,” boys coach Brian Martz said, “both the competition and the course.” The boys finished 17th as a team in a field of 35. Edina, Minn., won the boys’ 5K run with 134 points, the Trojans were 17th with 449.
Daniel Gardarsson continued to lead the way for West, putting in a fourth-place finish in 15:59.0.
The Women of Troy posted a third-place finish in team points in a 34-team field topped by Dowling Catholic of West Des Moines. The Maroons had 81 points; the Women of Troy scored 144. Ashlynn Yokom again led West in the 4K run with a third-place finish in 14:21.7.
