Richard L. Frantz, 66, of Iowa City, died peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, surrounded by his loving family, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following an extended illness. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in rural Hills. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Regina Education Center. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City, is handling the arrangements.
Richard was born on Sept. 22, 1942, in Iowa City, the son of Orion and Alberta Kron Frantz. He graduated from Regina High School and worked for many years as a housing inspector for the city of Iowa City.
Richard was an avid hunter, fisherman, camper and sportsman. He raised hunting dogs, enjoyed golfing, bowling and gardening. He also was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include his three sisters, Rose Rogers of North Liberty, Doris (William Durand of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Linda Klein of Iowa City; his three brothers, Harry (Marlene) Frantz of Iowa City, Wayne (Patty) Frantz of Iowa City, and Don (Jane) Frantz of Coralville; many nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Lynn Ruchotzke of Iowa City.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
