IOWA CITY– The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Johnson County would like to announce that on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 6:30 p.m. there will be an educational program on heart disease. Our program is titled “Beyond Mental Health: Care for the Heart,” with Dr. Jess Fiedorowicz. Joining Fiedorowicz for this discussion will be Julie Voelker, a combined family practice/psychiatry resident. Heart disease is a leading cause of excess death for those with mental illness. This session will talk about measures that anyone can take to reduce their risk of heart disease.
Prior to the event, support groups for people with mental illness as well as a support group for family members will be held at 5:30 p.m.
Both events will take place at Mercy Hospital 1st Floor Conference Room.
