The Solon Area Book Club selection for November is “Any Bitter Thing” by Monica Wood. Raised by a Maine priest, her uncle Mike, since the age of two, Lizzy Mitchell grew up surrounded by his devotion to his ministry. By age nine, her world was shattered again when her uncle was accused of molestation. After being sent to live with relatives, Lizzy is told that Uncle Mike passed away from the weak family heart and died. Now a high-school counselor and trying to make sense of her life at age 30, Lizzy becomes a victim of a hit-and-run drive and is left, injured and stunned in the middle of the median. So, how was it that Uncle Mike came to visit her in the hospital? Wood’s drama is full of surprises right up to the final page. If you liked “Secret Life of Bees,” you will also enjoy this book club selection.
The Solon Area Book Club meets in the big meeting room of the library on the third Tuesday of the month, and Nov. 15 at 6:30 p.m. will be the next gathering. All interested adult readers are welcome to attend. For questions about the book club, please contact Joyce at email@example.com .
