SOLON– Solon Middle School honored local veterans this Veterans Day with music, poetry, handmade cards, and refreshments.
Members of the American Legion executed the ceremonial Advance to Colors as eighth grade trumpet players Monica Moss, Suma Janacek and Chad Thielen played “Call to the Colors.” The national anthem was then played on the tubas by Kale Altman and Ben Krutzfeldt. A veteran in attendance declared that never in his 90 years had he heard the national anthem performed by tubas.
Second Lieutenant Dalicia Xayasouk spoke to the audience about her experiences as a female in the military. Jake Truemper added to the day by writing and reciting the poem “Hero.” Wayne Croy acknowledged the veterans in attendance and thanked them for their participation and Dorothy Jacobi’s eighth grade band showed their appreciation with the playing of “Armed Forces on Parade” and “The Footlifter March.”
The PTO provided refreshments for the veterans and their families after the ceremony.
