Charlotte L. Williams, 84, longtime Coralville and Iowa City resident, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at Briarwood Health Care Center in Iowa City. Funeral services were held Jan. 23 at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Burial was at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Charlotte Louise Hughes was born June 30, 1927, in Iowa City, the daughter of David Webster Hughes and Anna Frances (Cerny) Hughes. She was a City High School graduate and had attended cosmetology school. For a time she owned and operated her own beauty salon in Iowa City, then began a career at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in 1965. Here she worked a short time in housekeeping, and many years as a telephone operator, retiring in 1990.
Local survivors include Michelle Williams-Jones (Jason Jones) of Swisher and Randi Shannon (Jason) of North Liberty. She was preceded in death by her former husband Earl Williams, two brothers and two sisters.
