SOLON– The Solon Community Food Pantry will open Monday, June 4, in the lower level of the Solon United Methodist Church. Food storage and distribution will be conducted in the same area accessed from the east side of the church directly across from the Solon fire station. Signs will be posted for easy access.
Drop boxes for the collection of non-perishable items are available now at Sam’s Main Street Market and Solon United Methodist Church. Refrigerated and frozen food collections will be announced at a later date.
Monetary donations may be directed to the Solon Community Food Pantry, P.O. Box 206, Solon, IA 52333. Please designate whether your gift be directed toward furnishings or food. A wish list of needed items and a pantry report will periodically be placed in the Solon Economist to inform and thank the community for their support.
A community meeting is planned Tuesday, May 1, at the Solon Public Library at 7 p.m. to welcome volunteers and anyone interested in this important endeavor. Volunteer opportunities will be available and basic procedures and overview discussed. The Solon Community Food Pantry is a collaborative effort of our three churches, Our Lord’s Church, Solon United Methodist Church and St Mary Catholic Church along with the Solon Senior Advocates and local organizations, groups and residents.
