VAN HORNE— The boys were pretty beat up Monday, June 4 as the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity baseball team suffered a pair of losses on the road at Van Horne to the Benton Community Bobcats, falling 13-4 and 9-0.
The Clippers opened game one with a pair of runs in the top of the first, but couldn’t find home plate again until the fifth. Meanwhile, the Bobcats put up four runs in the first, one in the second and three in the fourth. Five runs in the bottom of the fifth only added insult to injury.
Dillon Villhauer had three hits and two runs, AJ Liddell had two hits and two runs while Tyler Schulte got a hit and Tanner Bandy had two hits. Liddell picked up two RBIs in the game and Bandy had one RBI. The Clippers put up four runs, eight hits, committed two errors and left five men stranded. Schulte took the loss in a game that saw three CCA pitchers: Schulte, Zach Anderson and Nile Rourke. Schulte worked three innings, struck-out two, walked one, and gave up 11 hits and eight earned runs. Anderson threw for 1.3 innings striking out one, walking four, giving up four hits and five runs (two earned). Rourke had 1.7 innings on the mound, issuing three strike-outs, walking two and giving up no hits and no runs.
In the nightcap, Benton struck first with a run in the bottom of the first, six in the fourth and one each in the fifth and sixth while shutting-out Coach Andrew Davis’ Clippers. Villhauer, Liddell and Schulte had CCA’s three hits. The Clippers sustained three errors and left three men stranded. Colton Beckler and Cody Wagner handled pitching duties with Beckler taking the loss. Beckler threw 3.7 innings striking out one Bobcat while giving up ten hits and seven earned runs. Wagner worked the mound for 2.3 innings, striking out one, walking two and giving up three hits and a pair of earned runs.
The losses dropped the Clippers to 2-6 overall and 0-6 in the WaMaC.
