SOLON– Contractors will be tearing up the town in September.
As the reconstruction of Main Street in Solon gains steam, the City of Solon and the Solon Economic Development Group (SEDG) are teaming up for a campaign to urge residents to continue shopping locally.
“RE-MAIN IN SOLON” will be a purchase-based prize giveaway running Wednesday, Sept. 5, through Wednesday, Sept. 19.
The grand prize will be a flat screen LED television (approximately 42-inch, $700 value) or $500 cash.
Participating businesses in Solon will provide an entry in the drawing to customers for any minimum $5 purchase. One entry per purchase.
Additional prizes include a Kindle Fire (or $200 cash), $200 in gasoline gift cards ($100 RJ’Z Express/$100 Casey’s), and cash prizes of $100 and $50.
After a purchase is validated by a participating retailer, customers will need to put their name and phone number on the back of the card and place it in a drop box at the business. Winners will be notified by phone.
“The whole idea is to provide an incentive for people to keep shopping locally during the time when construction is at its peak,” said SEDG president Doug Lindner. “Many businesses which rely on walk-in traffic could be significantly impacted by the ongoing project.”
When you spend your dollars at an independent, local business, you keep more money in your hometown, Lindner continued, supporting your social services, schools, library and local non-profits. Locally-owned businesses return about 80 percent of each dollar to their community, he added.
“The Solon City Council is dedicated to making the Main Street Improvement Project a success. A key component to that success is minimizing the impact of the construction on local businesses,” noted Solon City Administrator Cassandra Lippincott. “To that end the council is making a financial commitment to support a campaign designed to draw people to Solon businesses during construction.”
