The School Improvement Advisory Committee will be meeting Thursday, April 18, in the central office conference room, 6 p.m. The agenda will include: Iowa Assessments data review; Iowa core/professional learning update; Strategic plan update; Review 2012-2013 district goals; Approve 2012-2013 APR and district goals; and SIAC membership/calendar for 2013-2014.
The Solon High School Band will hold a can drive on Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. If cans need to be picked up, please call 319-310-7031 and we will make arrangements. Profits from the can drive will be used for the band department.
This is a reminder to those families who qualify for non-public transportation reimbursement. Forms must be filed in the central office by May 1 for second semester reimbursement. Or the forms may be picked up in the SCSD central office. Failure to submit your request by the May 1 deadline will result in the denial of the reimbursement request for the claim period.
There will be a driver education parent meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, in the middle school auditorium. This will be an opportunity for the driver education instructors to briefly explain the summer program and to answer questions you may have about the summer program. Why Solon? In addition to the potential tax benefit that comes from taking driver education through the school, Solon’s driver education program offers a step-by-step comprehensive approach to assist your child in becoming a more proficient driver. We take seriously the responsibility to make available an appropriate educational driving program that has high expectations for all students.

Solon High School art club students will be traveling to Chicago on April 19 and 20. While in Chicago, students will be visiting the Art Institute of Chicago and touring both the academic facilities and museum, the Museum of Science and Industry, Shedd Aquarium, and Millenium Park.
Saturday, April 27, is the date for this year’s Prom. Tickets go on sale Monday, April 22, for $6 for singles and $10 for couples. At the dance, prices will double to $12 for singles and $20 for couples. The Grand March begins at 5:30 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. Pictures will be taken in the media center until 6:30 p.m. The dance will begin at 9 p.m. at South Slope Community Center located at 980 N. Front St. in North Liberty. The dance will end promptly at midnight. Formal dress is required. Hope to see you there.
High school counselor, Mike Thompson, has set-up hours once a month to meet with parents regarding issues impacting your children.
