CEDAR RAPIDS– On Thursday, Aug. 15, at 7 p.m., the Cedar Rapids Hockey Association (CRHA) will host an open house at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena, located at 1100 Rockford Rd. SW in Cedar Rapids.
A 501(c)(3) charitable organization, the CRHA oversees the Jr. RoughRider travel hockey program. Boys and girls ranging in ages from 5 to14 and residing in areas from Waterloo to Iowa City participate in the program. Teams formed in accordance with birth year compete with other hockey teams rooted in the Midwest. Frequent opponents include Des Moines, Ames, Quad City, Waterloo, Iowa City, Omaha and Dubuque.
Parents of children of any age interested in learning more about youth hockey are encouraged to attend the open house, estimated to last approximately an hour. CRHA Board of Directors member Connor Deering and others will lead discussions about the Jr. RoughRider hockey program, including team composition, practice structure, game format, equipment, and general expenses.
Following on the heels of the open house will be 2013-14 season tryouts commencing on Thursday, Aug. 22. Tryouts are open to any player age 5 to 14.
