MOUNT VERNON– The 2014 edition of the Solon boys track team had its first chance to compete at the WaMaC indoor meet, held Saturday, March 22, at Cornell College in Mount Vernon. Team scores were not kept, allowing a variety of athletes to compete in various events.
Results for Solon included:
55 meter dash: Grant Goldsberry, 7.41; Dalton Hoit, 7.61.
200 meter dash: Grant Goldsberry, 25.91; Austin Kennedy, 26.54; Colton Hansel, 26.90; Jackson Walker, 28.93.
400 meter dash: Liam Bell, 1:04.14.
800 meter run: Patrick McGill, 2:20.46; Ben Backers, 2:34.62.
1600 meter run: Ben Backers, 6:30.97.
55 meter hurdles: Colton Hansel, 9:37.
4x200 meter relay: Solon A (Brandon Childs, Nate Christensen, Josh Prybil, Emilio Villagrana), 1:39.38; Solon B (Keegan Hess, Trevor McGill, Kyle Bransky, Alex Proehl). 1:46.17.
4x400 meter relay: Solon A (Graeson Dall, Josh Prybil, Payton Nicol, Ty Appleget), 3:47.25; Solon B (Keegan Hess, Trevor McGill, Brandon Childs, Preston Miller), 4:00.61

Shot Put: Dalton Ferguson, 55’ 1.25”; Danny Whitmore, 44’ 4.75”; Matt Quinn, 43’ 6”; Tanner Wymer, 38’ 1”; Michael Kline, 36’ 5”; Jackson Walker, 35’ 11.25”.
Head coach Mark Sovers, along with assistant coaches Dan Dall and Brad Wymer, expect to field a very competitive team this spring, with a number of athletes returning who contributed to last year’s conference champion team. Junior Connor Ham won a state title in the high hurdles last year while seniors Jacob Black, Jordan Wymer, Jacob Gibbs and Dalton Ferguson placed in various events at state as well.
If the weather cooperates the Solon boys will run their first meet of the season outdoors at Cornell College in Mount Vernon Saturday, March 29.
