SOLON– The postseason begins Tuesday for the Solon boys varsity soccer team.
The Spartans travel to Davenport Assumption for a Class 2A substate 4 quarterfinal at 5 p.m., with the winner to advance to face Marion Thursday, May 29. The regional final is set for Saturday, May 31, at Central DeWitt.
Solon ended its regular season Tuesday night with a road game against Vinton-Shellsburg. Results were not available at press time.
The Spartans won their final home game of the season, a 1-0 victory over the Washington Demons, Monday, May 19, on a first-half goal by Adam Nelson-Ockenfels. Austin Hunt was credited with the assist.
It was a bounce-back win after Solon had fallen, 2-1, to the Clear Creek Amana Clippers Friday, May 16, in Solon.
Earlier in the week, the Spartans took a 3-0 win over the visiting Williamsburg Raiders. Brandan Childs, Shay Croy and Dylan Doyle scored for Solon, with assists from Doyle, Nelson-Ockenfels and Keegan Paisley. Senior goalie Nick Melchert had three saves.
